About

What DistillDoc is

The problem

Most people sign contracts without fully understanding them. Not because they're careless — because contracts are written in dense legal language designed to be accurate, not readable. A standard apartment lease is 15–30 pages. A gym membership agreement hides its cancellation policy in section 14. A phone plan contract buries the part where your promotional rate expires after 12 months.

The result: people get surprised by auto-renewal fees they didn't realize they agreed to, early termination charges they didn't know existed, and IP assignment clauses that sign away more than they intended.

What DistillDoc does

DistillDoc reads your contract and tells you what it actually says — in plain English, with exact section references. Upload a PDF or DOCX, enter your email, and within 60 seconds you get:

  • A plain English overview of the full document
  • Every obligation you're agreeing to — payments, deadlines, restrictions
  • What the other party has agreed to provide or do
  • Exact cancellation steps and termination fees with section references
  • The “Watch Out For” section: the 5–10 clauses most likely to cost you money or limit your options
  • Unlimited follow-up questions about your specific document

What DistillDoc is not

DistillDoc is not a law firm. It does not provide legal advice. It does not tell you whether to sign a contract, negotiate specific terms, or represent you in any legal matter.

It surfaces what a contract contains — clearly and quickly. What you do with that information is up to you. For standard consumer contracts (leases, gym memberships, phone plans, employment agreements), most people find they don't need a lawyer once they actually understand what the contract says. For complex commercial agreements or contracts with significant negotiated terms, a lawyer's review makes sense.

Pricing and privacy

DistillDoc costs $4.99 per document — one time. No subscription. No account. No recurring charges.

Your PDF is permanently deleted within 60 seconds of analysis completing. We never store your document content — only the structured summary, which remains accessible via your private share link. We store a one-way hash of your email address (not the address itself) to enforce the refund guarantee.

If you're not satisfied with your analysis for any reason, you can request a full refund within 30 days. No questions asked.

Document types

DistillDoc is specialized for eight common contract types, each with analysis prompts tuned for the clauses that actually appear in that type of document:

If your contract is adjacent to one of these — a service agreement, a membership, a vendor contract — pick the closest type. The analysis will still surface the key clauses.
